The thick haze extending across the country has taken its toll of victims. Magen David Adom reports that 122 people have turned to MDA call centers requesting help due to breathing problems. Of this number, 16 are children, over two thirds of whom are babies. The number of callers today was significantly higher than on a normal day.
In addition to breathing difficulties, an exceptionally high number of resuscitation cases was also recorded. These were performed on people suffering from cardiac problems.
MDA points out that the weather is liable to harm the sensitive population and recommends that heart and lung patients, pregnant women, the elderly and those suffering from shortness of breath avoid strenuous physical activity and that they stay at home as much as possible until the weather improves.
MDA recommends that those at risk take a basic course in first aid and resuscitation. For details and registration: WWW.MDAIS.ORG
